Fighting the Dengue menace in our town

Dengue has made a vicious comeback to our town this season. It has ravaged the slum-dwellers and the other under-privileged people. Even a few of our school mates have contracted it.
We need to take some pro-active action to curb it by spreading awareness among the people about the precautions they need to take to rein in the disease.

Objective: ….

We need to explain to the people about the role of mosquitoes who spread it. The people must learn to use mosquito nets in the house, and remove the poodles of accumulated water in and outside their homes. The public health authorities need to be asked to use the mosquito-repellent smoke emitter machines more frequently and in more areas of the town.

List of measures: …

1. Use loudspeakers mounted on auto rikshaws to go round the town to speak to the general public to be alert about the role of mosquitoes and the need to remove accumulated water in the vicinity.
2. Organise dedicated volunteers to go round slums and dirty areas of the town to drain the poodles and clear the clogged drains.
3. Print leaflets about the cause of dengue, its symptoms , its propagation, and the ways to fight it. These leaflets can be pated on the entrance doors of the areas where dangue incidence is the most serious.
4. Arrange for admission of serious dengue victims to nearby hospital.
5. Meet and prevail upon the hospital administration to create a dedicated dengue ward with more beds.
6. Give financial rewards to the health workers who make creditable contribution to the campaign to fight dengue.

Conclusion…

This amount of Rs.60,000 is a very meagre amount when we weigh the benefits of this campaign. It will save many precious lives.
