daring little girl defies death …

Eight-year-old Adivasi girl survives night-long ordeal in her own school

A story has emerged about how a Clas 2 girl had a close brush with a painful death in her own school. The girl had fallen fast asleep in her classroom unaware of the closing hours. As per the daily procedure, a schoolteacher came and locked the classrooms from outside. The room where the girl had slept was locked too. The little girl woke up and found to her horror that she was alone in the room. It was dark all around as the night had begun to fall. Wanting to escape from inside the room where she had been trapped, the brave Adivasi girl tried to squeeze herself through the small opening in the window grill. She managed to push her body out into the open, but her head remained tangled in the grill. She struggled to free her head, but it was in vain. To make matters worse, the area was being lashed with heavy rains. More worryingly, the surroundings were infested with all kinds of forest animals that posed serious threat to her life.

Drenched by rains, she went through the harrowing time with remarkable resilience. She remained immobile in that awkward position till the next morning. The classroom was opened by a teacher as usual. The discovery of the girl stuck in the window created a huge alarm in the school and nearby areas. Villagers ran in to free the little girl. Using their muscle power, they bent the grill’s flats, so that the girl could disentangle her head. Finally, the girl became free. the steel flats of the grill and the girl finally was freed.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital for a medical check-up. To everyone’s relief and her parents’ great delight, the girl had emerged unscathed from the grisly encounter with death. Anger against the school’s management gripped the people. The negligent teacher was suspended.

The father and mother of the girl had spent the whole night scouring the forests in the vicinity of the village to find their missing child. The futile search engulfed their minds in unbearable sorrow. For them, discovery of their unharmed daughter was a heavenly gift.
